Sonu Nigam recently came into the spotlight after expressing his opinion about AR Rahman in several interviews. In a conversation with O2 India, Sonu stated that AR Rahman is not a great singer, although he always manages to keep his voice in "sur" or in the right pitch.
According to Sonu Nigam, AR Rahman is not trained as a singer. He mentioned that although Rahman has a beautiful voice, he has never claimed to be a great singer. "He knows that the texture of his voice is very beautiful, but he has never considered himself a great singer," said Sonu.
Sonu also explained that Rahman is better known as a great composer. For him, the most important thing is to be in the right pitch or tone. "What good is a beautiful voice if it is not in tune? Rahman may not have an extraordinary voice, but he is always spot on in pitch," he said.
Sonu Nigam's statement emphasizes that Rahman, although his voice is not considered extraordinary, can always control the tone well. That is what makes him unique as both a singer and a composer.
This is not the first time Sonu Nigam has spoken about AR Rahman. Previously, he also revealed Rahman's introverted nature, which often keeps him distant from crowds and more focused on his works.
In the same interview, Sonu Nigam also criticized AR Rahman's music in the film Yuvvraaj, which starred Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. According to him, the music in the film was not good and "bad".
