How Givina Deepens the Character of a Woman from Belitung in the Film 'THE BELL: CALL FOR DEATH'

Actress and singer Givina Lukita Dewi shows her dedication in deeply portraying the role of Saida, a native girl from Belitung, in the horror film THE BELL: CALL FOR DEATH. Not wanting to hold back, she even "disturbed" her fellow actress, Zulfa Maharani, for 24 hours non-stop to learn the local dialect.

For Givina, language is a crucial element to bring a character to life. She does not want her performance to seem half-hearted, especially since she has to represent a native resident of Belitung.

"I don't want to present the native residents of Belitung in a half-hearted way; I don't want it to be like that. That's why I'm trying to dig deeper," said Givina when met in the XXI Metropole area, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (4/7/2026).

To achieve this goal, she contacted Zulfa Maharani, who indeed has Belitung blood and is very fluent in the local dialect. Givina admitted that she did not hesitate to keep contacting her to ensure that her pronunciation was perfect.

"I also want to say thank you to Zulfa Maharani, Ikal, she was very helpful for me to learn the Belitung language and she never complained when I disturbed her by phone for 24 hours," she recalled with a laugh.

Givina's struggle paid off completely. She confessed that she fell deeply in love with the character Saida, a strong woman who shows her affection through actions, not words.

"Saida is a character that... she is a true Belitung girl who is very strong because she might have grown up alone. But even though she grew up alone and fought alone, she actually has a lot of love for the people around her," she explained.

The filming experience in Belitung was also a very memorable moment for him. He felt very touched by the warm welcome from the local residents who were so enthusiastic about the film production in their area.

"I was very touched by the people of Belitung who welcomed us so warmly. It felt like they were very welcoming to us wanting to make a film there," he concluded.

Now, Givina hopes that her hard work will be well received, not only by the national audience but also by the people of Belitung whose story she brought to the big screen.
