Ali Fikry Reveals Challenges of Football Scenes in 'YOUR FATHER THE GOALKEEPER'

Kapanlagi.com - Ali Fikry shared a different experience while being involved in the film YOUR FATHER THE GOALKEEPER by Ody Harahap. Playing the character Dino in a story that showcases the atmosphere of village football, he directly felt how sports scenes on set require a different focus compared to playing football in everyday life.

This young actor mentioned that when the camera is rolling, attention must be divided between dialogue, blocking, and movements that look good. According to him, the technical demands make the shooting process feel more complex than playing on a regular field.

"If we play real football, we just play, right? In a film, our thoughts are kind of split; we have to think about dialogue, we have to think about blocking, and the movements have to be good. So that’s also a very enjoyable challenge for me," said Ali Fikry when met at XXI Metropole, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (1/9).

In line with this, director Ody Harahap mentioned that this project was his first experience working on sports scenes with actors who are mostly not from a football athlete background. This requires extra coordination on the field as well as adjustments to the rhythm of work on set.

1. Medical Team Ready at Every Shooting Session

Ody Harahap revealed that almost every shooting session requires the readiness of the medical team. Under the scorching sun, the intensity of the game quickly exhausts the players, so recovery support must be available on set.

"I can't imagine that there are players who are golfers playing soccer, and bodybuilders playing soccer as well. After each take, there's immediate physiotherapy. There are many challenges for the medical team," explained Ody Harahap.

Amid the physical demands, he mentioned that the work atmosphere remains relaxed. The laughter and jokes among the players and crew make the waiting time for the next shot feel lighter, even when the weather is unpredictable.

"If it rains, we just wait, and after that, there are plenty of stories being told and chatting like this. So it’s never boring," he said.

2. Done with a Happy Heart

Ody hopes that the dynamics of working in the field, from the excitement to the difficulties, can be clearly read by the audience when watching the final result on screen. He emphasizes that the team goes through this process with full commitment.

"We do it happily and, what can I say, fully, like earlier, for example, Bang Tigor, we did one take in order, then the second take, after the second take, we did it in order again. Well, that's it," he concluded.

YOUR FATHER IS A GOALKEEPER tells the story of the relationship between a father and son wrapped in the spirit of traditional Indonesian village football. This film is produced by Entelekey Media Indonesia and Entelekey Sinema Indonesia.

After holding gala premieres in Lombok, Sidoarjo, and Surabaya, YOUR FATHER IS A GOALKEEPER officially hits theaters across Indonesia starting September 3, 2026.
