Indonesian Film Festival 2026 Officially Launched, Nirina Zubir and Morgan Oey Become FFI Ambassadors This Year

This launch marks the beginning of the Citra Cup series of the Indonesian Film Festival 2026, which this year carries the theme "Askala Karya Sinema Indonesia."

During the launch, the FFI 2026 Committee also introduced Nirina Zubir and Morgan Oey as the FFI 2026 Ambassadors. Both will help oversee this year's FFI program, especially in strengthening communication between the organizers, film industry players, and the Indonesian cinema-loving community.

The theme "Askala Work of Indonesian Cinema" is chosen as a celebration of the light and vitality of national cinema. Through this theme, FFI 2026 wants to emphasize that film is not just a work of entertainment, but also a space that holds memories, cultural values, and experiences of society from generation to generation.

The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Fadli Zon, stated that the light in this year's FFI theme has a broader meaning than just a visual element in film. "Light is not just a technical element of cinematography, but a symbol of knowledge, hope, memory," said Fadli Zon.

2. Registration for FFI 2026 is Open until August

In addition to introducing the theme and the festival ambassador, the FFI 2026 Committee also announced the schedule for submitting works. Registration for FFI 2026 is officially open from June 18 to August 31, 2026, through the official website of the Indonesian Film Festival.

The selection and judging stages will take place from September 1, 2026, until the Night of the Citra Cup Awards FFI 2026. This peak event is planned to be held on November 20, 2026, as an awards night for Indonesian filmmakers.

3. Judging System and Public Program Strengthened

FFI 2026 also introduces several changes in the registration and judging system. Works that can participate in FFI are films that have been regularly screened in theaters, alternative screenings, streaming platforms, or film festivals in Indonesia during the period from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026.

The Head of the Judging Division for FFI 2026, Budi Irawanto, explained that the changes in the judging system are made while maintaining the principles of transparency, meritocracy, and accountability. For Feature Films, the judging process will be divided into three stages: Preliminary Selection, Nominations, and Winners.

4. FFI Aims to Become a Broader Appreciation Space

The Head of the FFI 2026 Program Division, Prilly Latuconsina, also presented plans to strengthen public programs as part of the Road to FFI 2026. One of them is through the Masterclass program, which features industry players from various fields.

In addition, FFI 2026 is also preparing a Nomination Week, which includes screenings of nominated films to be enjoyed by a larger audience. Through this program, FFI is expected to not only be an awards event but also a space for learning, education, and appreciation of films for the general public.
