Kapanlagi.com - The horror comedy film DUKUN MAGANG is set to enliven Indonesian cinemas starting June 18, 2026. Directed by Chiska Doppert, it presents a unique story about a student who initially considers the mystical world to be just a myth, but ends up trapped in supernatural terror while working on his thesis.
Produced by Dens Vision Multimedia in collaboration with Wahana Pictures, DUKUN MAGANG combines elements of horror, comedy, and friendship wrapped in local culture that is still closely tied to shamanistic practices. The story centers around Raka Mahardika, a final-year student who continuously faces rejection of his thesis proposal from his professor.
In order to complete his studies, Raka chooses to research the world of shamanism in Kalimati Village, a remote area known for its long-standing mystical traditions. This decision marks the beginning of an adventure that gradually shakes his beliefs in logic and reason.
1. More Chilling
Raka did not set off alone. He was accompanied by Boiman, his loyal yet timid friend who often lightened the mood, and Sekar, a college friend from Kalimati Village who understood the local community's way of life.
The initial intention to gather research data turned into a far more chilling experience. The presence of mysterious rituals, old houses, and the secrets held by the villagers brought Raka and his friends closer to a world he had long denied existed.
The situation became more complicated when they met Mbah Djambrong, a legendary shaman who played an important role in maintaining the village's balance. At the same time, Raka accidentally awakened the anger of the Kuntilanak Hitam that had been trapped in the area for years.
2. Difficult to Predict

Raka's role is entrusted to Jefan Nathanio. The actor, born in 2003, admitted that the biggest challenge during production came from a tight shooting schedule out of town and unpredictable weather conditions.
"The biggest challenge was more about the pretty packed shooting time, because we were shooting out of town where we didn't know what the weather would be like. That's one of the biggest challenges too, but other than that, it was really enjoyable," said Jefan.
Meanwhile, Hana Saraswati plays Sekar, a woman who bridges modern views with village traditions. According to Hana, this character has an interesting perspective on the life and culture inherited by the Kalimati community.
3. Comedy Prepared Thoroughly
"In my opinion, Sekar is an interesting character because she has a modern side, yet remains close to the culture and traditions of her village. I try to understand Sekar as someone who sees the mystical world not just as something frightening, but also as a part of life that needs to be appreciated," said Hana.
Fajar Nugra, who plays Boiman, also explained that the comedic elements in this film have been thoroughly prepared since the scriptwriting and reading stages. The presence of the character Boiman is expected to provide balance amidst the terror haunting the village of Kalimati.
"All the comedy was created before filming, during the writing process and the reading process. Filming is just about executing what has been created. So during filming, we can focus on acting and how to portray the character, because the comedy was well-prepared before filming," said Fajar.
