The incident started on Monday (4/5) when the perpetrator visited her potential victim, Leni Panca Putri. The victim and the perpetrator already knew each other from serving sentences at the Class 2A Women's LP Sukun in Malang City.
The victim then offered a house occupied by one of her relatives for sale. The perpetrator expressed interest and immediately called someone referred to as her mother in Hong Kong.
After the call, the perpetrator, who claimed to be extremely wealthy, confirmed that she would buy the house. She even showed a stack of money from her bag, which turned out to be fake money.

During the conversation, the perpetrator complained that his child did not want to ride in a car for traveling around the house. So the perpetrator intended to borrow the victim's motorcycle.
The victim allowed it based on trust, especially since the perpetrator promised to return it along with the payment for his house purchase. But the motorcycle was not returned, and the victim reported the incident to the Singosari Police Station.
The Singosari Criminal Investigation Unit, Malang Police Resort, arrested the perpetrator at his home in Tunjungsekar Village, Lowokwaru District, Malang City. The perpetrator admitted that he pawned the motorcycle for IDR 5 million in Pakis, Malang Regency.
"The case is still being handled by the Singosari Police Station for further processing," said Ipda Nining Husumawati, Head of Public Relations Sub-Division of Malang Police Resort, on Saturday (9/5).

The perpetrator is charged with the crime of embezzlement or fraud under articles 372 and 378 of the Penal Code. The perpetrator committed the act with a series of lies, pretending to buy a house.
The perpetrator convinced the victim by taking out an envelope of money and claiming that his child did not want to ride in a car. The perpetrator also promised that the motorcycle would be returned along with the payment for the house. This made the victim believe and lend his motorcycle.

Based on preliminary examination, the suspect committed fraud and embezzlement twice, in the Singosari and Lawang areas. Police records show that the perpetrator had previously been involved in the same offense in 2009 and completed his sentence on March 27, 2020.
