Neelam Kothari recently responded to rumors about her relationship with her co-star, Govinda. The two made their debut together in 1986 and immediately caught the attention of fans due to their chemistry.
During the late 80s and 90s, they starred in about 14 films together, which sparked speculation that they were in a relationship. However, at that time Govinda was already married to Sunita Ahuja.
Although many believed they were dating, Neelam denied the rumors. In an interview with Hauterfly, Neelam explained that such link-ups were part of the industry at the time. “No one provided clarification. They just printed whatever they wanted,” she said.
Neelam also revealed that at that time they felt afraid of the press, which held significant power. “If we did more than 2-3 films together, it was already considered like that,” she added, explaining how the media often made assumptions without clear basis.
On the other hand, Govinda once expressed his feelings for Neelam in a 1990 interview with Stardust. He admitted that at one point, he had canceled his engagement to Sunita because he wanted to marry Neelam.
Govinda explained, “I was very fascinated by Neelam,” acknowledging the differences in their backgrounds. However, they grew closer as they often worked together in various films. “We became friends, and the more we met, the more I liked her,” he reminisced.
Nevertheless, their relationship did not continue. Govinda said that he had to cancel his engagement to Sunita after a quarrel. “I asked Sunita to leave me,” he revealed.
