"For some reason, I didn't take a stand. Maybe next time I will. I was very excited to play that role because it's a cool character. But when people say it's part of history, I don't think it's history," said Saif as quoted from Bollywoodlife.com.

"I am quite aware of what history is. I don't think there was a concept of India until maybe the British gave it one. I don't think there is any constructive point in arguing loudly, proving you know what you're doing," he continued.

It was this statement that later made the Indian public angry and amused. They then revealed the fact that India already existed and had its own history before being colonized by England.

2. Public Criticism

Statement from Saif Ali Khan has been criticized by the Indian public for several reasons. The first is because as someone who claims to be a historian, Saif actually doubts the history of India.

They remind Saif that the name of one of his children, Taimur, also comes from a figure associated with Indian history in the past. Also, the historical records since 1400 years ago mention the name Indika as the beginning of the establishment of India.
