Noble, Portrait of Hrithik Roshan Who Decided to Become an Eye Donor If He Passes Away

Famous Bollywood actor, Hrithik Roshan, took a noble step by deciding to become an eye donor. This decision was announced coinciding with his 43rd birthday in January 2017. This step is not merely symbolic, but born from personal and emotional experiences while portraying a blind character in the film Kaabil.

In the film produced by his father, Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik plays a blind man who faces various life trials. To delve into the role, he interacted extensively with visually impaired individuals. From that process, Hrithik admitted that his heart was touched and he began to understand their life struggles more deeply. This ultimately motivated him to donate his eyes after he passes away.

Renowned eye doctor, Dr. S. Natarajan from Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital, Mumbai, stated that Hrithik has directly contacted his hospital to support the eye donation campaign. Even before being invited to participate, the Roshan family had already expressed that noble intention. "Hrithik is truly serious about his decision," said the doctor.

Hrithik firmly requested that his decision not be considered part of the promotion for the film Kaabil. According to him, the decision to become an eye donor is a genuine form of care for others, not a marketing strategy. He wants the public to understand the importance of this donation, especially for those living in darkness due to blindness.

The commitment signing ceremony for donors was held quietly in Wadala, Mumbai, at the eye hospital that has long been a place for the Roshan family's care. Dr. Natarajan noted that Hrithik came with great sincerity, showing that his intention was not just a formality.

With this decision, Hrithik joins a lineup of other Indian celebrities who have previously become eye donors, such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan. He hopes his decision can be an inspiration, especially for the younger generation, to also donate their eyes to help others.

India itself is still facing a significant shortage in eye cornea stocks. About 200 thousand corneas are needed each year, but only around 30 to 45 thousand are available. Hrithik's initiative is expected to raise public awareness to be more active in the eye donation movement for a brighter future for those in need.
