17 Years Together, One of D'MASIV Members Reveals If He Once Quit Because of Parental Factors

Kapanlagi.com - This year, the band D'MASIV celebrates their 17-year career in the music industry. They are indeed a long-lasting band as they have never changed personnel. However, before their debut in 2005, the bassist, Rai, actually left D'MASIV.

"So in 2005, at that time when I had just graduated from high school. So I experienced a dilemma because I had to continue my education or continue with the band," said Rai during a virtual press conference on Monday (21/9).

Rai chose to leave D'MASIV because he was not supported by his parents to become a musician.

"My late father at that time emphasized what I would become if I wanted to be in a band. That may be the standard thinking of parents. So I felt that being a musician was not promising at that time. At the end of 2005, I talked to the guys and said I wanted to quit," he explained.

1. Only Out for Three Months

After being out for three months, Rai met again with D'MASIV who was performing at one of the high schools. Since then, he decided to rejoin D'MASIV.

"After I was out for three months, I met the guys again while they were performing at one of the high schools. I watched from the front and I felt like I should be the one playing. Then suddenly Rian called me onto the stage and asked me to play a song," Rai said.

"So when I got off the stage, I immediately told the guys that I wanted to come back and asked if there was still space for me. Finally, they opened the way for me again," he continued.

2. Prove to Parents That His Choice Is Not Wrong

Rian, the vocalist, also said that when Rai left, D'MASIV never looked for a replacement because they were already compatible with Rai.

"Because we never looked for a bass player, it was always additional. We did give space hoping that Rai could come back because we had great chemistry since the 2003 festival. We also felt the loss when Rai was not there," Rian said.

After deciding to return to D'MASIV, Rai convinced his parents that his choice to become a musician was not wrong.

"Since then, I have become more confident in proving to my parents that the choice I made is right and I will not make a wrong decision in pursuing a career as a musician with D'MASIV. Because deep down in my heart, I feel like this is my world (music). So I try to convince my dad," Rai concluded.
