Ify Alyssa's story aligns with the experiences of many other GERD sufferers, who must adapt to new eating habits and lifestyles to maintain their stomach health.Â
Ify admits that she cannot drink coffee, except for matcha. However, it should not be too frequent. Many GERD sufferers must avoid certain foods and drinks, including coffee, because the caffeine content can trigger acid reflux and worsen symptoms.
In addition to avoiding coffee, GERD sufferers are generally also advised to limit spicy, acidic foods, as well as carbonated and alcoholic drinks. Since elementary school, Ify has been a picky eater; she cannot eat foods that are too spicy or too acidic.
"They say that thoughts also greatly affect GERD, so one must manage stress well in life/work," Ify wrote on Instagram, on Tuesday (17/6).
Ify was also rushed to the hospital to undergo an endoscopy (a procedure that involves inserting a tube with a camera to view the digestive area). Ify chose to be fully anesthetized, rather than receiving local anesthesia.
