8 Portraits of Narji's Fear of Petai and Jengkol, Once Got Sick for 3 Days Because of Eating Mixed Rice with Petai

Not everyone likes jengkol and petai. Including comedian Narji. The former member of the comedy group Cagur said that he himself doesn't understand why he is afraid and hates petai and jengkol.

"I don't understand either. I've been afraid since birth. Since I was little, I didn't like jengkol and petai. I just don't like their appearance. If there is petai and jengkol at home, I will definitely go to my grandfather's house," said Narji when met recently.

Because of his dislike for petai and jengkol, young Narji once got sick because his food was mixed with petai by his mother.

"When I was 3 years old, my mother played a prank on me. She gave me rice for breakfast with petai underneath. After just one bite, I got sick for 3 days. So, I really don't like it and don't force me to eat it," he said.

"I also remember when I was little, if there were potholes in the road, they would be patched with jengkol skin in the market. I didn't want to pass through there. Because if the jengkol skin got injected, it would last for 2 to 3 days," Narji continued.

"When I was in Serang, I was given a lot of petai in a sack because they were happy to see me. So, without disrespecting them, I waited for them to leave, and then I shared the petai with others," he said.

"He eats stinky beans and jengkol when I'm out of town. But when I come back, everything has to be clean, no smell of stinky beans and jengkol. Otherwise, I will leave again," Narji added, welcomed by his wife's laughter.
