Ahmad Dhani Warns Event Organizers to Obtain Permission Before Performing His Works Professionally, Shares His Loss of Billions of Rupiah

Musician Ahmad Dhani has re-joined the management association for copyright exploitation, especially performing rights royalties, Wahana Musik Indonesia (WAMI). By returning to WAMI, Ahmad Dhani aims to improve the addendum for a better future.

"I once declared my departure from WAMI, and now I'm back. Coming and going is nice. By re-joining, there is an improvement in the addendum (article in the contract), for a better future for me personally, I don't care about others, let them handle it themselves," said Ahmad Dhani at the WAMI office in Pancoran, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (1/3/2023).

With the return of Dewa 19's frontman to WAMI, professional singers and Event Organizers (EO) must obtain permission to perform songs written by Ahmad Dhani.

"Coincidentally, one of the improvements is the most important thing today is that we clarify, we make it clear that one theme is EO (event organizer) if they use Ahmad Dhani's songs in professional concerts, professional artist concerts," said Ahmad Dhani.

"Not concerts like birthdays, RT (neighborhood) events or anything, professional concerts, meaning professional artists, professional players, not cafe band players. So if a national artist is invited by an EO, that EO must obtain written permission from WAMI. Later, a letter or coming here or having an agent to handle the letter, permission from WAMI must be obtained," added Ahmad Dhani.

However, this rule does not apply to cafe singers who want to sing Ahmad Dhani's songs. Mulan Jameela's husband even gives them full freedom to perform his works. Not only that, Ahmad Dhani also allows singers who want to perform his songs on YouTube.

"For cafe band players, please sing my songs, Dewa 19, as much as you want for free. The cafe will be the one paying, the band players don't have to pay. And for YouTube cover singers, please sing because I have no connection to it. It's already taken care of by their respective publishing," he said.

Ahmad Dhani also warns that he can now report event organizers and events that perform his songs without WAMI permission.

"Don't let it happen that when there is a concert, suddenly someone comes and asks for permission, don't let that happen because it is already within the realm of the law," said Dhani.

Finally, the father of Al, El, and Dul admitted to suffering losses of billions of rupiah. Ahmad Dhani hopes that by rejoining WAMI, there will be improvements or addendums to the Event Organizer (EO) that manage his works.

"Many, a lot. Reza Artamevia alone has been singing since 1997. (Someone sings every day) yes. (Billions of rupiah) yes, around that. If it's in trillions, not yet," said Ahmad Dhani in the same occasion.
