Angie, Angelina's nickname, admits that her initial reason for converting and embracing Islam was to marry the late Adjie Massaid.
"Yes, it's true because of Mas Adjie. Mas Adjie proposed 3 times, but I kept rejecting. He said, 'I think I should elope with you.' He didn't just take me, but also my religion," Angie said in Melaney Ricardo's Youtube channel.
Adjie Massaid apparently didn't run out of ideas at that time. Despite his proposal being rejected 3 times, he had a plan to win Angie over.
"When I came to his house, there was already a religious officiant. Not just any religious officiant, he changed his religion. Then my name was written on the Mualaf document, and I recited the syahadat," she continued.
Because of her decision, Angie faced difficulties. She was confronted by the surrounding community after converting to Islam.
"There was also pressure from the extended family. You know, like in Batak culture. In Manado, the whole village came and said, 'Why is this preacher's child like this?'" she said.
However, it seems that Angie's decision to convert religions is final. She convinced her family to accept her decision.
"I told my father that this is my decision, I will never beg them when I'm broken," she concluded.
