Apology from Anang and Ashanty after being accused of mocking the Sign Language of the Deaf

Kapanlagi.com - Some time ago, Anang Hermansyah and Ashanty were accused of belittling the Sign Language of the Deaf in one of their videos. At that time, they were holding a 17th competition event, where at one moment, Anang was seen mimicking sign language towards the camera to tease Ashanty in a joking manner.

The problem is, some people considered Anang's action to be inappropriate, causing the news to spread. In order to clarify the misunderstanding, the couple who got married in 2012 made a clarification video and apologized.

"Once again, I apologize. First, we want to explain why that video was made. Actually, we apologize for the wrong perception that happened in public, in the deaf community. But we want to convey that it's not like that, that there was no intention to mock or belittle. Because we also have many deaf friends or fans from the deaf community. Even recently in Jogja, we also met with deaf friends," Ashanty said in the video.

1. Timeline of the Actual Events

Furthermore, Ashanty explained what actually happened at that time. From her explanation, Anang was sulking because he had been ignored earlier, so he sarcastically mimicked sign language without making any sound.

"So the story is, the edited video shows that we had a little argument because when Mas Anang was talking to me, I didn't listen because I was busy with the kids' competition. So he kept saying, 'Hey! I'm talking here!' like that. Finally, when it was my turn to talk to the camera, he made a gesture, but it wasn't meant to mock deaf friends. It was more like, 'This girl is so annoying, don't listen to her, it's giving me a headache.' But he didn't want to speak because he was angry with me, so he used that kind of language," Ashanty explained.

In addition, she mentioned that the viral and widely circulated video clip also caused people to have a wrong perception because they didn't see the whole context.

"Our editor edited the back part of the video, but the ending part was not edited, which caused misperception. Because if you don't know the whole story but only see a piece like that, it can be misleading," she added.

2. Send Apology Video to the Deaf Community

Video clarification and apology are expected to erase all negative perceptions that spread to the public. In addition, Anang and Ashanty also hope that such cases will not happen again in the future.
