Awkarin Caught Stealing Content from Foreign Illustrator, Ernest Prakasa: I Will Keep Arguing

Kapanlagi.com - The name Awkarin has recently gone viral on social media, especially on Twitter. Not without reason, because this celebritygram and YouTuber was recently caught stealing the work of a foreign illustrator named Hallie Bateman.

All of this can be seen in her now-deleted Instagram post. Posing with her boyfriend on a yellow car parked on the beach, Awkarin used elements from the artwork of Hallie Bateman which is sold for US$ 40 (around Rp 589,000) on her website.

What's worse, Awkarin did not credit the original artist or clearly state where she obtained the image. This certainly made Hallie angry and upset, as expressed on her Twitter account.

1. Making the Original Illustrator Angry

"@awkarin edited and posted my artwork on her Instagram, sharing it with her 5.7 million followers, without permission or giving credit to me. I have asked her to delete the post, but there was no response," wrote Hallie Bateman in English.

She continued, "@awkarin, if you really like my work enough to post it, why don't you care about who the creator is? Don't you want to know where the artwork comes from? Don't you want to give credit? Your post has been liked 171 thousand times. Everyone who has seen my artwork doesn't know who the creator is (or might think that @awkarin is the creator)."

2. Apologizing Before It Gets Deleted

Apparently, Awkarin heard about this and she made an apology in the same post. Awkarin also mentioned Hallie's account as the previously unmentioned credit.

"I'm sorry, but I just found out the artist's page who made the artwork I used and got from Pinterest. Because (once again) they didn't include the artist's credit on Pinterest. So, I tag @hallithbates! Thank you for your beautiful artwork," wrote Awkarin.

3. Ernest Prakasa's Harsh Comment

The commotion that arose on social media apparently caught Ernest Prakasa's attention. Aware of the importance of Intellectual Property Rights, Ernest wrote his harsh comment and message for Awkarin, because of her status as a public figure.

"Awkarin goes international because (once again) she steals other people's work to be used as content. Very cool," he wrote in a tweet on Wednesday (7/10) yesterday.

It doesn't stop there, Ernest added, "Alay content, setups, pranks, over-the-top drama? Go ahead as long as you don't harm others. It's showbiz after all. But if you steal content, I will keep arguing about it. That's my promise."
