The child of musician Charly Van Houten, Mohammad Restu Gibran Van Houten or Restu is now grown up. At the age of 18, Restu has chosen to follow in his father's footsteps and pursue a career in the Indonesian music industry. So far, Restu has released two original singles.
When met in the Kemang area, South Jakarta recently, Restu shared how his love for music began.
He also admitted that his love for music was indeed influenced by his father. However, Restu stated that he doesn't feel burdened by his father's famous name when deciding to become a singer.
Because initially Restu mentioned that his father did not know his ability in music. In fact, Restu mentioned that he joined a big label without Charly's knowledge.
"I was really serious about music when I was in 3rd grade, learning drums, the main musical instrument. Previously, of course, because I saw my father performing, I saw him as a public figure, I saw him as a superstar," said Restu.
"If you say it's a burden, it's not. I went there and it would be a waste if the songs were not taken care of, so maybe many people thought I joined the label because of my father, but in fact, my father knew I joined the label after I joined. My father didn't know," he continued.
Restu confirms that his steps in his career in the local music industry were without the involvement of his father. Not only that, Restu even did not use the name Van Houten behind his name when officially joining the label.
"The peak was when I joined Trinity, my father asked if I was serious and I answered yes. When I joined the label, I asked to remove the name Van Houten, it was my own request but it doesn't mean I don't appreciate it," he concluded.
Currently, Restu is waiting for the birth of his younger sibling, the third child of Charly and Regina. At the age of 18, Restu will have a younger sibling who is much younger than him.
