Being Silent When Experiencing Physical and Emotional Abuse in Junior High School, Afgan Traumatized Until Adulthood: The Wound Will Take a Long Time to Heal

The artist, whose full name is Afgansyah Reza, was not only teased with inappropriate words, but also experienced physical violence such as being pushed and pelted with stones. Unfortunately, at that time Afgan could only keep it to himself.

"When I was around 14 years old, I experienced emotional and physical harassment at my school. And I never told anyone about it, I never fought back," Afgan said when met in Senayan area, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (30/9/2023).

1. Still Feel Trauma

Because choosing to remain silent and keep everything buried, the traumatic feeling is still carried by Afgan until now. Sometimes he feels so bad about himself and feels like he has no strengths at all.

"Until now, even at the age of 34, I still have the trauma. I still feel insecure, sometimes lacking confidence and scared all the time. For me, the wound will take a very long time to heal," said Afgan.

2. Admitting Not Being Educated

At that time, Afgan chose to remain silent because he didn't know what to do. Unlike now, where bullying issues are always discussed and there are various ways to handle them so that they don't become trauma.

"The reason it (sticks) is because I was not educated about trauma, anxiety, depression. At that time, we were not exposed to things like that. That's why I'm really happy now that there are discussions about it and how to overcome it for a better life. Before, I didn't know why or what to do. Now it's better, people can easily get informed," Afgan said.
