When marrying Sukhdev Singh, Bunga Zainal was said to have converted to another religion. There were rumors that she embraced Hinduism like Sukhdev, but the true religion that her husband practiced was finally revealed.
Not Hindu, Bunga's husband and children practice Sikhism. Generally, the appearance of Sikh followers is similar to that of Muslims. The women wear a headscarf, but not a fully covered hijab. The men also wear a head covering and kurta, similar to Indian Muslims.
When Bunga wears a headscarf while accompanying her children to worship at the Gurdwara, netizens were initially surprised. They thought she had returned to Islam because of her headscarf. However, Sikh women do wear headscarves like Muslim women.
Flower herself never openly revealed her beliefs. She only admitted to believing in God and being religious, but she did mention that her family was angry because she married Sukhdev and embraced her husband's beliefs.
The Sikh religion itself originated in India in the 15th-16th century. Sikhism was influenced by the movements and changes in Hinduism (such as Bhakti, monism, Vedic metaphysics, ideal gurus, and bhajans) as well as Sufi Islam.
In Sikhism, the caste system is not recognized. According to Wikipedia, Sikh individuals can be identified by their names, which mostly end with Singh for males and Kaur for females.
Bunga's family uses the surname Singh for their sons, such as Sukhdev Singh. Meanwhile, Sukhdev's daughter from her first marriage is named Kareena Kaur.
Bunga herself is still celebrating Eid and expressing her apologies. As for Bunga's beliefs, she still keeps them as a personal secret.
