Called Infidel for Attending the Opening of GBI Church, Gus Miftah Speaks Out

Kapanlagi.com - The oration activities carried out by Ustaz Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman alias Gus Miftah in the pulpit of the Bethel Indonesia Church (GBI) Amanat Agung, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, have sparked controversy. In fact, many people label Gus Miftah as an infidel.

Regarding this matter, Gus Miftah, when met in Menteng area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night (6/5), stated that he and the Governor of DKI, Anies Baswedan, were invited to inaugurate the church. Starting from the Governor of DKI to religious figures, they witnessed the inauguration event, and Miftah emphasized that what he did was a national oration, not a sermon or lecture.

"It went viral regarding my presence at the GBI Penjaringan church, where at that time the church inauguration event was attended by the Governor of DKI Jakarta. My capacity was not coming alone but because there was an invitation from the church through my friend. Then I saw that one of the agendas was the inauguration of the church, which was also attended by the Governor, Mr. Anies. So, with all considerations, I came," said Gus Miftah.

"So I want to convey, that event was the inauguration of the church and I came to give a NATIONAL ORATION, not a sermon or lecture. From the Governor to religious figures, they were all there, if I am then labeled like this, please, that is the public's perspective," he continued.

Gus Miftah said he understands very well that the issue of the legality of entering a church has generated different opinions from scholars. However, he already understands and has received support from his teachers regarding what he has done.

"Although the law regarding entering a church itself is understood differently based on various references, I can understand those who reject my presence, saying it is forbidden and that I am an infidel. I have teachers who support that what I am doing is right, and I respect the opposing group," he said.

2. Is There Anyone Who Doesn't Like Gus Miftah?

Furthermore, Gus Miftah cannot guarantee that he became viral because there are individuals who do not like him. But for him, it is normal to have both supporters and detractors.

"The reasons are not only related to the legality of entering a church, but also to personal preferences of liking or disliking," he concluded.
