Celebrating Eid in the Midst of the Corona Pandemic, Dorce Gamalama Misses Family Through Video Call

Kapanlagi.com - The year 2020 does feel different from previous years due to the corona virus pandemic (COVID-19). This is also felt by Dorce Gamalama who admits to surrendering even though this year feels heartbreaking. Despite everything being limited, Dorce doesn't stop creating.

"Whatever happens, it is Allah's fate because we are currently experiencing COVID-19. But Alhamdulillah, during this corona, I was able to create 12 religious songs and other songs," said Dorce Gamalama when contacted via Whatsapp, Tuesday (26/5).

The impact of the corona pandemic was also felt during the holy month of Ramadan until Eid arrived. Unlike usual, most Indonesian people performed Eid prayers at home this year.

"Let alone participate in Eid prayers, in this area people pray individually, the children are not in the city, Alhamdulillah," he added.

1. Virtual Gathering

What Dorce Gamalama misses the most this year's Eid is gathering with family. Even though it can be done virtually, meeting family in person is irreplaceable.

"What's missing is definitely the gathering, missing the family, even though I can't leave the house, I still have relatives, some are living far away, some are in Jakarta, but Alhamdulillah with voice mail, video calls, the feeling is still there. But hugging, cheek-kissing, it's not there. But God willing, we will remain steadfast, trust in God, and so on," said Dorce.

2. Not Used to Buying New Clothes

Eid is usually synonymous with new outfits, but this does not apply to Dorce. He admitted that he is not used to buying new clothes because it is considered a waste of money and there are more important things to buy.

"I don't like buying new clothes. I just wear the ones I have. I received 1800 clothes yesterday, so I don't want to waste money, it's better to buy rice," he said.

Despite not prioritizing new appearances, Dorce Gamalama's Eid is still enlivened by traditional Eid dishes, such as ketupat and cakes, from family and friends.

"I received 6 ketupat from my nieces and also vegetables, rendang. Alhamdulillah, friends brought cakes. But on the first day, it was quiet because no one came," he concluded.
