"We propose that Indonesian citizens who are eligible to obtain citizenship in their partner's country (foreign citizens) can obtain it without giving up their Indonesian citizenship," said Nia K. Schumacher, one of the APAB administrators, when met in the Senayan area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (18/8).

In addition, Nia also said that it is not only ordinary people who feel the impact of mixed marriages. One example is Alyssa Daguise, the girlfriend of Al Ghazali, who has a mixed Indonesian-French heritage.

"Like what Alyssa Daguise experienced, who was born from a mixed marriage, when she reached a certain age, she could not have dual citizenship, so she had to choose her father's French citizenship," said Nia.

"Alyssa works in Indonesia as a model, and she really feels the difficulty, starting from the deductions in her salary and the need to travel back and forth between Indonesia and France because she doesn't have the right to own, only the right to use," she continued.

2. Impact of Mixed Marriages

The main problem often faced by mixed marriage families in living their lives in Indonesia is the collision of various laws and regulations. This limits their rights in starting a family, from earning a living to the right to civil status and residence.

Therefore, Nia K Schumacher and her colleagues propose that if foreign nationals marry Indonesian citizens for ten years, they should be able to obtain Indonesian citizenship for the welfare of the family.

"Therefore, we propose that if the marriage has been more than 10 years, our foreign national partners can obtain Indonesian citizenship, without giving up their original citizenship," she concluded.
