Chronology of Helmy Yahya's Dismissal from the Position of TVRI President Director

This is the chronology of why Helmy Yahya was removed from his position. TVRI Supervisory Board Chairman, Arief Hidayat, revealed that there were several reasons why they chose to dismiss the man born in Indralaya, March 6, 1963.

1. Purchase of English Premier League Broadcasting Rights

One of the underlying reasons for the dismissal of Helmy Yahya was revealed to be his decision to purchase the English Premier League program, which airs on Saturdays and Sundays. Meanwhile, the Supervisory Board felt that Helmy's decision was not in line with the established budget.

2. Who Dares Quiz

Another point is the company's internal procedures, including the Budget Work Plan.

"There is also a discrepancy between the implementation of TVRI's rebranding and the Annual Budget Work Plan of LPP TVRI 2019 established by the Supervisory Board," he said.

"It also violates several General Principles of Good Governance or AUPB as stated in Law Number 30 of 2014 regarding Government Administration, namely the principles of impartiality, accuracy, and transparency. Especially regarding the appointment or procurement of the Who Dares Quiz," he continued.

3. Administrative Discussion

TVRI Program and News Director Apni Jaya Putra explained that administratively, the English League itself has been carried out since July 17, 2019. "The meeting was also led by Chairman of the Supervisory Board Arif Thamrin minus Mr. Moko, then all the directors were complete," he said.

"The Supervisory Board was reported on the type of cooperation. Then the price, advertising revenue, and encryption system. The Supervisory Board through letter 127/Dewas/2019 dated February 18 issued a directive letter regarding the English League on July 18," he added.

4. Termination Letter

Arief Hidayat Thamrin revealed that the Supervisory Board has issued a Notice of Termination Plan (SPRT) to Helmy Yahya on December 4, 2019.

Helmy Yahya also submitted a letter of defense, which was ultimately not accepted by the Supervisory Board. "Through the Plenary Session, the Supervisory Board stated that they did not accept Helmy Yahya's response," Arief said as reported by Liputan6.

5. Mediation Process

After receiving a termination letter from Helmy Yahya, there was a mediation process conducted together with the Minister of Communication and Information. "The Chairman of the Supervisory Board and the CEO are currently mediating with the Minister of Communication and Information at the Ministry Office," said Apni Jaya Putra, the Director of Programs and News at TVRI Office in Jakarta.

Helmy Yahya, who feels that there was no explanation regarding the reason for his dismissal, considers the decision to be legally flawed.

6. Legal Route

Due to this matter, Helmy Yahya has decided to take the legal route.

"Every citizen has the right to defend their rights, and Helmy Yahya will use that. We will prepare (legal steps) in a not too long time and will launch it soon," said Chandra, who is the legal representative of Helmy Yahya, during a press conference held in Senayan area, Central Jakarta, last Friday.

7. Defending TVRI Employees

After knowing the dismissal letter of Helmy Yahya as TVRI director by the Supervisory Board, thousands of TVRI employees defended Helmy Yahya and issued a vote of no confidence in the Supervisory Board.

"Therefore, we TVRI employees convey this statement that we express a vote of no confidence in the Supervisory Board of TVRI," said Agil, in his press conference, in the Senayan area, Central Jakarta, Friday (17/1).

"There are representatives from TVRI stations in Papua, West Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, NTT, Riau, West Nusa Tenggara, and West Sumatra. (In total) approximately around 4,000 employees," he continued as quoted by Merdeka.
