Controversial Soap Opera 'Zahra' Starring Underage Actors, KPI Requests Replacement of Cast

Kapanlagi.com - The soap opera Zahra that aired on the television station Indosiar received criticism from the public. The reason is that the main actor named Lea Ciarachel Forneaux is still underage but playing an adult role.

To KapanLagi.com, Commissioner of KPI Central Board of Institutions Nuning Rodiyah revealed that they have reviewed the soap opera after receiving many complaints from the public. She urged for a replacement of the cast.

"The demand, in my opinion, is to evaluate the cast. Because employing children beyond their capacity, such as playing the role of a third wife and so on, is not within their capacity. They should not be burdened with roles beyond their capacity," said Nuning when contacted on Wednesday (2/6/2021).

This player change will certainly alter the narrative structure. However, the KPI believes that television stations and production houses can find a way around it.

"Actually, we have communicated with broadcasting institutions and they are evaluating whether to replace the actor. The KPI requests that the actor be evaluated. Whether to be replaced, or change the storyline, or whatever. Of course, production houses and broadcasting institutions can figure out how," Nuning continued.

2. Commitment to Child Protection Issue

Although it is not within the authority of the KPI, Nuning Rodiah believes that protecting children should be done by anyone. She has coordinated with the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI).

"Even though it is not within the authority of the KPI, the KPI is committed to the issue of child protection, which means employing children or portraying children in performing arts should also consider their age and capacity, and avoid roles that may have an impact on their physical and psychological development. We are currently conducting a study and planning to coordinate with the KPAI," she concluded.
