Criticism for Vacationing Abroad During Corona Outbreak, Raul Lemos Speaks Out

1. Quality Time with Family

Initially, Raul explained how he had planned the vacation well in advance to create a special moment amidst his busy schedule.

"It's not easy for me to schedule time to enjoy family time, as we live in separate countries with our own busy schedules and our children's school time. I have to first manage my packed schedule, adjust the school holiday schedule for the kids, and my wife's free time as a member of the parliament in between sessions and recess periods," Raul wrote.

2. No Travel Warning

Additionally, Raul also explained that when they went on vacation, there were no travel warnings from the countries they visited.

"When the vacation schedule arrived, the situation was still under control. I did not receive any travel warnings, including from the countries we would visit, namely Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, and France. All the visas for my wife and children were processed and obtained normally according to the applicable rules," he continued.

3. Conditions Worsen

He also emphasized that he did not want to put his children and wife at risk of being exposed to the virus. Raul Lemos then changed his travel schedule to several countries and decided to return to Indonesia quickly.

"Conditions worsened rapidly and unexpectedly in Europe after we arrived in Zurich on the morning of the 13th. I immediately decided to return earlier and cancel all schedules," Raul wrote.

4. Successfully Returning Early

He successfully rescheduled his return to Indonesia to March 19th. "I decided to return immediately and alhamdulillah I managed to reschedule our flight tickets to March 19, 2020, by fulfilling all the requirements for traveling between countries," he wrote.

5. Raul Lemos Takes Responsibility

Now, Raul and his family are undergoing quarantine according to government regulations. He also emphasizes how the insults directed at his wife are considered unfair. As the head of the family, Raul decides to take responsibility for those insults.

"Therefore, if someone is to blame for this incident, it is me as the husband and head of the household who is most responsible as the accused party. Not my wife!" he wrote.
