Zumi Zola is charged with bribery and gratification. He cried while asking the panel of judges to return the assets from his house safe that were seized by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Zumi Zola read his defense statement regarding the bribery and gratification case against him.

This suspended Governor of Jambi asked the panel of judges to return his assets that were in his house safe. The assets were previously seized by the KPK.

Zumi reasoned that the money would be used for the needs of his wife and young child, as well as for the treatment of his diabetes.

"To the Honorable Judges, I sincerely request that my savings can be released from confiscation for my needs and the needs of my family during my sentence," he said as quoted by Liputan 6.

"And with my condition that requires regular treatment due to the diabetes that I have been suffering from," he said while crying.

It is claimed that the money in the safe is not the result of corruption, but rather the result of his hard work as an artist and also the gift from his parents.

Zumi Zola himself also requested a reduction in the fine penalty. He reasoned that his economic condition is currently in a downturn.

Zumi Zola is charged with receiving gratuities amounting to 40 billion rupiah, USD 177,300, and SGD 100,000. He is accused of violating Article 12B or Article 11 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 Jo Article 55 paragraph 1 ke-1 of the Indonesian Criminal Code Jo Article 65 paragraph 1 of the Indonesian Criminal Code.
