Danar Widianto's Journey in His Career, Likes to Listen to Old Songs Since Childhood - Participated in X Factor Indonesia Auditions for Fun

Kapanlagi.com - Danar Widianto is one of the rising singers in the Indonesian music industry. Danar started his career in the Indonesian music industry from the talent search show X Factor Indonesia season three. In the show, he managed to secure the third position.

To Kapanlagi.com, Danar shared the story of his interest in becoming a singer. Since childhood, Danar has participated in singing competitions in his hometown. At that time, he participated in a competition held by the Neighborhood Association (RW) in Purwokerto, in conjunction with the celebration of the Indonesian Independence Day on August 17th.

"I started singing since vocational high school, and I've been singing since elementary school. The trigger was when there was a competition on August 17th in my neighborhood, and my parents heard me singing and asked me to join, so I did it just for fun," said Danar Widianto on Thursday (26/10/2023).

The first time he performed on stage for the August 17th event, the 20-year-old singer sang a song that his father often listened to, which was a work of the senior musician Rinto Harahap. Danar sang the song because he often heard it when his father played those old songs.

"At that time, I sang a song by the late Rinto, titled Ayah. That's my father's playlist," he said.

Because of his father, since childhood Danar had been listening to hit songs from the 80s. Starting from Iwan Fals, Panbers, Rinto Harahap, to Nike Ardilla.

"I used to listen to Iwan Fals, Rinto Harahap, Panbers, Nike Ardilla, using cassette tapes when I was in elementary school. Those were the references and they rooted in me. And I started with the songs of Om Iwan Fals, it has been rooted in me until now," he said.

Entering junior high school or SMP, Danar began to seriously hone his singing skills. There was no musician or singer who made him interested in diving into the world of Indonesian music. According to Danar, the process flowed naturally.

"Actually, I've always just gone with the flow. I even joined competitions just for fun, so everything just went on like that," he said.

Danar never expected more when diving into the music world. Even when participating in X Factor Indonesia, Danar initially only did it for fun. Coincidentally, at that time the audition for the event was held online due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

"Just for fun, at that time there was an online audition, I'm lazy to queue, especially queueing outside the city, for uncertain things, at that time there was a pandemic, online auditions through Instagram," he said.

Interestingly, the initial intention was just for fun, Danar actually managed to pass and occupy the third position in the third season of X Factor Indonesia. However, when he passed the audition and went to Jakarta, Danar initially thought he would only meet the jury. Then he returned to Purwokerto, his hometown.

"There were no expectations, I just registered. Alhamdulillah, I was accepted. Sent to Jakarta, I thought 'maybe just to meet artists,'" said Danar.

As a child who was born and raised in Purwokerto, Danar admitted that he was surprised when he arrived in Jakarta to participate in the talent search event broadcasted on RCTI. Because, he met new people who had different lifestyles.

"There's a culture shock, different friends. They must have different lifestyles. And we were quarantined for a few months in a hotel. There must be unexpected surprises that I have never experienced before, but it's exciting. So I have to adapt," Danar concluded.
