Because his mother had to work, Denny Sumargo, who was 13 years old at the time, had to be entrusted from one relative's house to another. But there was one problem that made him end up wandering on the streets.

"I was once kicked out by the owner of the house. At that time, I was still a confused kid, my mother left me in Jakarta and I misbehaved. I didn't have money back then, my mother couldn't send any, she only sent me nastar cookies every month to accompany me while eating. Ah, this makes me sad," said Denny Sumargo, as quoted from Merry Riana's YouTube channel (12/10).

1. Caught Stealing

The difficult economic situation forced Denny Sumargo to think of ways to earn pocket money. Especially at that time, he was entering his teenage years, where he was confused about finding his identity.

"I used to deceive the homeowners, for example, when shopping for a price of Rp 10,000, I would say Rp 11,000, with the extra Rp 1,000 for playing games. I was very naughty. Then, when shopping at the supermarket, I didn't know about stealing. When I wanted to pay, there were items in my pocket that I forgot, so the next day I tried again and got caught and kicked out of the house," he explained.

2. Starving and Scavenging from Trash Cans

Reluctantly, Denny left the house and wandered the streets. In the cold of Jakarta, he tried to find a place to warm his body and fill his hungry stomach.

"I was starving for 24 hours, confused, wanted to beg but my mother told me not to. I couldn't find work either, people rejected me. I slept in wealthy areas and felt hungry and cold. I saw their trash cans and scavenged for leftover food there," Denny Sumargo concluded.
