Dewi Lestari Reminds the Importance of Caring for Breast Cancer, Early Detection

Since 2006, she has been delving into meditation and self-discovery, believing in the importance of balance between the physical and the spiritual in leading a productive life.

"What are my goals and big ambitions in this life? And I am a person full of curiosity, so I want to explore things that might seem trivial to others, but for me, it's an exciting exploration," she said when met at Senayan Park, Central Jakarta.

1. Breast Cancer Awareness

October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, where awareness about this disease becomes increasingly important. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer affecting women, with over 2 million new cases diagnosed each year.

It is also beginning to affect teenagers, making it an urgent health issue. Aware of the challenges faced by breast cancer warriors, Sorella collaborates with Love Pink, a community that provides support to them.

"Love Pink provides a space for those with cancer and makes it a home for them. There is a kind of mentoring within it for communication and mutual strengthening as well as sharing experiences," said Yulianti Rahayu.

2. Sorella's Commitment

Sorella has been committed for a decade to educating the public about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. They encourage the community to regularly perform SADARI (Breast Self-Examination) and SANDANIS (Clinical Breast Examination), vital steps in detecting cancer early.

With contributions from Dewi Lestari and Sorella, it is hoped that more women will become aware of the importance of health check-ups.

“This is for me to create, to work, and to live. And it turns out that all of this intersects between health maintenance, emotions, inner self, physical, and even spirituality,” expressed Dewi, emphasizing the integration of physical and mental health.

3. Want More Women Educated

Through this campaign, Sorella and Love Pink want more women to be educated and saved from breast cancer. They also launched an initiative of 10,000 free breast ultrasounds for underprivileged communities in various cities in Indonesia, to provide broader access to early detection.

This campaign is not just about tackling breast cancer, but also about building solidarity and hope for fighters. With community support, they invite everyone to work together to maintain breast health and support each other.
