Duo Maia Reunites on Indosiar Stage, Sings Dangdut Songs with a Unique Style

Maia Estianty and Mey Chan once again performed together on the grand stage of Studio Emtek, Daan Mogot, West Jakarta. However, there was something different this time. They did not perform their signature pop songs, but were challenged to sing dangdut songs.

Maia Estianty shared that she was initially surprised when asked to perform the song "Kereta Malam" by Elvy Sukaesih. This challenge was considered quite tough because the dangdut genre requires specific vocal techniques that are different from the pop or R&B music they usually perform.

"Okay, I got a call and was told that we had to sing dangdut. A bit wow. It's a bit hard, right? Then they said, 'No, no, not that koplo dangdut, it should be like disco-disco dut,'" she said when met at Studio Emtek, Daan Mogot, West Jakarta, Saturday (10/01/2026).

1. Maia and Mey Chan Initially Shocked

Although initially shocked, Maia and Mey Chan eventually accepted the challenge. They performed the song with an arrangement that had been adjusted to the distinctive style of Duo Maia. The classic dangdut song was transformed into a more modern version with a touch of mashup from their song "EGP".

"The arrangement is really funny. So we like it. Yes, it's a mashup, mixed with the song EGP," added Mey Chan enthusiastically.

2. Duo Maia Successfully Entertains the Audience

Their performance successfully entertained the audience. Maia admitted to enjoying the moment, and she and Mey Chan even danced on stage to the catchy rhythm of the music.

"It was fun, earlier we were dancing off stage. I saw Pantura Angels singing the song TTM, right? We ended up dancing off stage because it was so much fun," Maia recounted.

3. Mey Chan Acknowledges That Dangdut Singing Is Not Easy

Mey Chan added that singing dangdut songs requires a technique that is not easy. However, they try to sing it in their own style to keep it sounding pleasant and entertaining.

"Dangdut music definitely requires a technique that is quite unusual. Like R&B singers. R&B needs riffs and runs. But this is cengkok, right? So there really has to be a special skill for those who can sing dangdut," Maia explained in response.

4. Duo Maia Reunion Heals Fans' Longing

This reunion performance seems to be a remedy for the longing of Duo Maia fans who have long awaited their stage action. The two proved that even though they rarely perform together, the chemistry between them is still very strong.

"But we sing in our style which is not too dangdut but still works," Maia concluded.
