Engagement to Akad Atta and Aurel Broadcast Live on TV, National Coalition for Broadcasting Reform Considers it Unimportant for the Public

Not only the engagement, in the following weeks there will also be a series of traditional rituals, religious gatherings, and the wedding ceremony.

This event has received criticism from the National Coalition for Broadcasting Reform (KNRP). According to a statement received by the media, the coalition consisting of civil society organizations and 160 academics and community activists expressed their disapproval.

1. Not Important to the Public

There are five written points. The first point stated in the National Coalition for Broadcasting Reform's statement is a strong rejection of the airing of shows deemed unimportant to the public.

"The KNRP strongly rejects all of these broadcasts that clearly do not represent the broad public interest by arbitrarily using public frequencies," KNRP wrote, quoted by KapanLagi.com from the statement.

"The KNRP regrets the attitude of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) Central, which did not immediately stop these activities, by passively waiting for the broadcast to appear and only then providing an assessment. However, it is clear that the content of the broadcast violates the rights of the public to receive higher quality broadcasts," they added.

2. Will Monitor KPI

In the third point, according to the National Broadcasting Reform Commission as stated in Broadcasting Behavior Guidelines Article 11 and Broadcasting Program Standards Article 13 Paragraph 2, broadcasts about personal issues should not be presented in their entirety unless for the public interest.

KNRP also regrets the attitude of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) which ignores various objections and criticisms from the public through social media, and passively waits for complaints in the official KPI complaint channel.

In the future, KNRP will monitor the performance of KPI Commissioners regarding this matter and continue to remind them of their obligation to critically and seriously carry out their authority when they see conditions and situations that harm the public in the broadcasting field.
