Feeling Exposed for a Moment, Mother is Confident Jeff Smith Can Do Better

Kapanlagi.com - As a mother, Areistiani felt betrayed when Jeff Smith was arrested by the police for abusing marijuana. However, the 23-year-old man had already undergone rehabilitation and promised not to touch the illegal substance again.

"It's normal for parents to feel betrayed," Areistiani said when met at the West Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (4/8).

As a mother, Areistiani believes that Jeff Smith will not be tempted again and fall into the same trap. However, she still monitors her son all the time.

"We can't be with our children 24/7," she said.

With the capture of their child, Areistiani hopes that Jeff Smith can become more mature. Furthermore, she also hopes that Jeff will not repeat the same mistakes in the future.

As a mother, all Areistiani can do at the moment is to provide full support so that her son can overcome his problems until they are resolved. She also hopes that the examination and legal process will run smoothly.

"There is already a promise. Yes, God willing, it will be better in the future," she concluded.

As is known, Jeff Smith was arrested by the West Jakarta Metro Police in the Jagakarsa area, South Jakarta on Thursday (15/4) last week. From the arrest, the police successfully secured evidence such as marijuana, paper, and several marijuana-related books.

2. Remains Detained Despite Being Rehabilitated

Although he has been approved for rehabilitation, Jeff Smith is currently detained at the West Jakarta Police detention center with the status of a prosecutor's detainee. The detention is related to two articles that have been charged.

As is known, Jeff is charged with two articles, namely Article 111 Paragraph 1 and Article 127 Paragraph 1 of Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. Article 111, which relates to the possession of marijuana, resulted in his detention.

"Jeff is currently in detention. Actually, he has reached the second stage of detention at the Prosecutor's Office, but because of the current COVID situation, he has been entrusted to the West Jakarta Police with the status of a prosecutor's detainee," said Aldi Surya Kusumah, Jeff's legal representative, after the trial.

"Because if it's Article 127, it's a single-substance article that can be directly rehabilitated. But because there is possession of goods under Article 111, there needs to be detention. So it's still rehabilitation, it's a form of rehabilitation punishment," he concluded.
