Giving a Welcome Speech at Ideafest 2020, Jokowi Highlights the Important Role of Creative Individuals Amid the Covid-19 Pandemic

Carrying the theme 'Restart', President Jokowi highlights the uncertainty faced by the creative industry sector amid the pandemic. Previously, this industry played a major role in building the national economy.

"In 2017, the creative industry contributed 1000 trillion rupiah to the GDP. The number increased in 2018 to 1105 trillion rupiah and further increased to 1211 trillion rupiah in 2019," said President Jokowi, as quoted from the Ideafest event on Sunday (15/10/2020).

"Similarly, the workforce working in this sector has increased, growing by around 5.9 percent annually. The creative economy has the potential to support all sectors without exception, making the creative industry a sector that can create many new jobs," he continued.

1. Finding New Ways of Adaptation

To survive in the struggling creative industry during the pandemic, President Jokowi has delivered an important message. One of them is by finding new ideas or ways for service providers and actively consuming domestic products for consumers.

"This industry will be one of the important supporting sectors in the effort to recover the national economy. Creative individuals are very quick to adapt, very creative in finding new ways. This needs to be welcomed by increasing the consumption level of domestic creative industry brands," said President Jokowi.

2. Proud of Domestic Products

Not stopping there, according to Jokowi, with the increasing consumption of domestic products, in the future, national creative individuals can compete healthily. Therefore, Jokowi encourages the public to be prepared to face new opportunities every day.

"We must continue to increase love and pride for the works of our own nation's children so that Indonesian creative industry products become the host in our own country. That is why I invite all creative individuals to prepare themselves to welcome new opportunities, to seize great opportunities. Now is the perfect time to lay the foundation," he concluded.
