Gus Miftah Admits Disagreement with the Fatwa Allowing Fidyah as a Replacement for Fasting, Yusuf Mansur Praises His T-shirt

Recently, news about a proposal to allow not fasting during Ramadan amid the coronavirus pandemic with the condition that the fasting is compensated with fidyah has gone viral.

A while ago, there was a heated discussion on Twitter after one Twitter account proposed to MUI (Indonesian Ulema Council) and Kemenag (Ministry of Religious Affairs) to allow people to not fast by paying fidyah (fine) and providing meals for the poor. MUI itself has responded to this proposal. MUI considers it baseless and unnecessary to be issued as a fatwa.

Gus Miftah, who is known as an eccentric cleric, also expressed his opinion on this discourse. He admitted to being angry in a video he uploaded on Saturday, April 18, 2020.

"I don't understand why," said Gus Miftah. According to him, many people are struggling and do not have enough money for fidyah.

The owner of the full name Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman also admitted his disappointment. This is because many people are experiencing economic difficulties due to the pandemic.

"If they don't fast, they have to pay fidyah, where will they pay from?" he said.

"But there are two viruses that are spreading around religion. The first is many ignorant people who imitate speaking about religion. The second is for political interests, selling religion. Religion is turned into a political commodity," he added.

2. Someone has the Wrong Focus

This immediately garnered many reactions directed towards him. One of them is ustad Yusuf Mansur who apparently had the wrong focus on the shirt worn by Gus Miftah.

"The shirt is awesomeeee," wrote Yusuf Mansur.

Yusuf Mansur's comment was immediately responded to by Gus Miftah. He invited him to watch a football match in Spain together.
