Her Award is Debated, Syahrini Shares Her Speech at Cannes - Mentions Award from UNESCO

The award received by Syahrini at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival has become a topic of debate among many parties. Recently, UNESCO denied that they gave an award at the event titled Listen to Her Parole held in Cannes.

Not responding with a straightforward sentence, Syahrini discussed the award she received through a text of her speech posted on her Insta Story. She also reposted an explanation regarding the organization that granted her the award through her personal Instagram account.

Syahrini received an award from the United Social Council at the Listen to Her Parole event during the Cannes Film Festival 2025, which has been held since May 13. At this event, she received the Global Cultural Impact Award for her role in charitable work within social communities and for children.

However, Syahrini's award has sparked public debate. This is especially true after UNESCO, through its representative in Indonesia, denied that they awarded the singer on behalf of the international organization. "So UNESCO is not involved in the awarding at the event in Cannes in question.Although the event may involve UNESCO Artist for Peace in a personal or symbolic capacity, the event is not an official ceremony or form of recognition from UNESCO.It might be more appropriate to refer to it as an award from the United Society Council through the Listen to Her Parole event, supported by Guila Clara Kessous, one of the UNESCO Artists for Peace," said the regional office of UNESCO Jakarta as quoted by CNN.com.

It seems that Syahrini knows that the award she received has become a topic of conversation in society. Instead of providing a direct and straightforward explanation, Syahrini chose to repost her speech when receiving the award. "I came to Cannes to receive this prestigious and extraordinary award from UNESCO through the ‘Listen to Her Parole’ platform.I dedicate this to all women in the world. With humility and sincere gratitude, I stand before you tonight. This recognition is not just a personal honor — it is a celebration of resilience, transformation, and the strength of human connection," said Syahrini.

"My name is Syahrini.I am a singer and artist from Indonesia. Since I was a child, I have been guided by the love of my late father, who lovingly called me 'Princess.' That name, which has now become part of my stage identity, reminds me every day of his belief in me.Music has been my bridge to the world — a way to connect across borders and cultures. I am fortunate to fulfill my dreams: to perform, create, and share my voice with millions of people," she said.

"However, at the peak of that journey, a new calling emerged — one more sacred than the stage: becoming a mother. For several years, I chose to step back from music to focus on my family — a decision I made with love and pride. During that time, I found a calm yet powerful happiness in being a mother to my daughter, and a wife to my husband.Thank you, my husband, for always being there for both of us.Receiving this award encourages me to welcome music back into my life. I can't wait to share with you again soon," continued Syahrini.

In the next post, Syahrini reposted an explanation about USC that was uploaded by Diyen, the person who connected Syahrini with USC. "The United Society Council, known for its commitment to cultural diplomacy and humanitarianism, sees Syahrini as a role model who bridges entertainment and activism. Her work aligns with the Council's mission to promote global solidarity through art, culture, and philanthropy," the caption read.

Syahrini also reposted an explanation about USC and its relation to Cannes. Through this post, Syahrini seems to want to emphasize that the award she received is genuine, not fake like what has been widely discussed.
