Her First Child Diagnosed with Autism at the Age of 1.5 Years Old, Lucy Wiryono Admits to Being Confused and Sad

Kapanlagi.com - Becoming a mother of a child with autism is certainly not easy. They have to be extra careful, patient, and understanding in dealing with their child. And that's what Lucy Wiryono has experienced for the past 11 years. 

Her first daughter, Danya Putri Purwanto, was diagnosed with autism when she was only 1.5 years old. As a mother, Lucy was initially confused and didn't know what to do, especially since information about autism was still very limited at that time. 

"When Danya was diagnosed with autism at the age of 1.5 years old. I was confused, what should I do? Now Danya is 13 years old, so it's been about 11 years ago when information about autism was not as abundant as it is now. So we were confused about 'where to take her, what therapy to do, what did we do wrong, and what should we do'," said Lucy Wiryono quoted from Melaney Ricardo's latest vlog recently. 

1. Focus on Children

However, as a mother, Lucy never loses hope. Despite her sadness, she must continue to fight so that her daughter can grow and develop like other children.  

"Coincidentally, at that time, I was blessed and my focus immediately shifted to 'she needs help'. I was confused, but I was thinking about it. Afit and I thought that, okay, this is something that Danya really needs, not us," said the MotoGp presenter. 

2. Open to the Public

At that time, Lucy, who had very little information about autism, chose to be open to the public about her daughter. And from there, she received a lot of help regarding her daughter's condition. 

"She needed help, and that help could be obtained through information, and where do we get information from? By being open," she explained. 

"So, with openness and honesty, help actually came in abundance," she concluded.
