Intending to Run for Governor of West Sumatra, Aldi Taher Wants to Be Like Bung Karno

"The reason I entered politics is the same as Bung Karno, yes, in the name of God. So, after I recovered from cancer, I thought about how to be useful. One of them is to enter politics, there are many aspects to politics. So, being a member of the DPR, legislature, President, Vice President, or Mayor, Regent, together, God willing, we will build Indonesia," said Aldi Taher at Trans TV Building, South Jakarta, Wednesday (8/1/2020).

Not half-hearted, the former husband of Dewi Perssik wants to run as a candidate for Governor of West Sumatra. Aldi Taher said, everyone has the right to run as Governor or Vice Governor. Whether they are artists, politicians, or ordinary people. The important thing is, they have never been involved in legal cases.

"Now, because the regional elections are held simultaneously, in the Republic of Indonesia, the constitution allows anyone to run as long as they are Indonesian citizens and not involved in legal cases, and in the name of Allah, our goal is the same, all other candidates have the same goal of seeking Allah's blessings and wanting to build the Republic of Indonesia," he continued.

2. Following in the Footsteps of Fellow Artists

Furthermore, several artists have already entered the world of politics, and some have even served as regional leaders. This has made Aldi more confident in his choice to enter the world of politics.

"Aldi is running for Governor or Vice Governor, but as you can see in online media or other media, I am following in the footsteps of Hengky Kurniawan, Tommy Kurniawan, Pasha Ungu. So, there are no rules that prohibit artists from becoming Governor or members of the DPR (Regional Representative Council). Many have done it. This is for all my friends, don't be allergic to politics, in the name of Allah," he said.

"So if you ask what my goal is, it is to seek Allah's blessings and to build Indonesia. It just so happens that Aldy is from West Sumatra, his parents are Minangkabau, so he is a migrant who returns to his hometown to build it. So we, the young generation, must continue to build Indonesia if not us, then who else? Regeneration is necessary," added Aldi Taher.

3. Advance Through Party Line

Aldi Taher is running as a candidate for Governor of West Sumatra not through an independent path. But through one of the parties in Indonesia, namely PKS (Prosperous Justice Party).

"I joined as a cadre of PKS, Prosperous Justice Party. I have met with PKS President Mr. Sohibul Iman, also met with PKS West Sumatra Regional Board, so the requirement to run for governor is twofold. First, being endorsed by a party or being independent. Even if it doesn't go through the party line, it will be independent. The important thing is effort and bismillah (in the name of God)," Aldi Taher concluded.
