Kapanlagi.com - Asha Darra, formerly known as Oscar Lawalata, made her debut as the lead role in the film SARA. In this drama, Asha plays a transgender person who has issues with her parents.
Before accepting the offer to play in the film by Ismail Basbeth, Asha first communicated with her mother and younger brother, Reggy, and Mario Lawalata. Once she received their full support, there was no other reason to refuse.
"I read the story together with my mother and brother. We had a serious discussion, and finally, after a long discussion, I agreed to be involved because this is not a story about transgender people, but about parents and their children from the perspective of a transgender person," said Asha at the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival (JAFF) 2023, Empire XXI, Yogyakarta, on Tuesday (28/11/2023).

Asha Darra likes the way Ismail Basbeth, as a director and screenwriter, approached her to get involved. Ismail treated Asha as a regular human being, not based on gender.
"Why am I interested in acting in this film? Because after meeting Mail, he approached me personally, not just offering me a role in the film, but explaining it. We know that this story could be exploited for sensation or other purposes," Asha said.

Furthermore, Asha Darra is glad to be involved in the film SARA because it portrays a transgender woman wisely. It is not made for exploitation or mere amusement.
"This film does not only show transgender people as a sensation or for fun, but it tells their feelings. And I think all transgender friends would agree. I have seen it completely and thank you for telling it delicately," Asha concluded.
