After performing umrah in the Holy Cities of Makkah and Madinah, she did not immediately return to Indonesia. Instead, she went on vacation to Dubai with her family. Many netizens were curious as to why Jennifer Coppen did not continue wearing a hijab after umrah.
Not staying silent, Jennifer provided an explanation for her actions through her personal Instagram account.

"I see a lot of people criticizing me on TikTok because I haven't worn a hijab, etc. I understand that maybe you have high hopes for me or are disappointed that I haven't worn a hijab. Guys.. honestly, I've been practicing Islam for a long time, but no one has taught me," said Jennifer Coppen, quoted on Monday (30/9/2024).
She admitted that she still has minimal knowledge about religion. "The only one who knew about Islam was my mom, but my mom has passed away. Since a long time ago, no one has taught me how to pray, read the Quran, etc. So I have to be independent and find a Quran teacher and learn to pray on my own," Jennifer Coppen continued.
Not only that, another reason that strengthens Jennifer's decision to not consistently wear a hijab yet is that she does not want to put it on and take it off. Jennifer Coppen wants to wear a hijab after she has sufficient knowledge about Islam.

“Alhamdulillah I can pray, but I still can’t read the Quran. So basically, I’m still learning guys. I know that wearing the hijab is definitely much better for me, but I really don’t want to wear the hijab just to take it off and put it back on later,” she explained.
“But I really don’t want to wear the hijab just to take it off and put it back on later. If I wear the hijab, I want to do it permanently, just pray for me, okay? I hope I can be ready to wear the hijab soon. I also never promised that I would wear the hijab after returning from Umrah,” concluded Jennifer Coppen.
Furthermore, Jennifer only asks for prayers so that she can be steadfast in wearing the hijab. She hopes that netizens can also understand her decision for now.
