Late Johny Indo Undergoes Islamic Funeral Procession But Buried in a Coffin

Kapanlagi.com - On Sunday (26/1), the tough actor, Johanes Hubertus Eijkenboom alias Johny Indo passed away. The man dubbed as Robin Hood died due to old age and his medical history. Yes, before his death, Johny had been suffering from hernia for quite a long time.

One thing that caught attention is Johny's funeral procession. As known, he converted to Islam in the late 1990s. However, his extended family is Christian. Moreover, his wife works as a pastor.

In response to public curiosity, Santa, Johny's grandson, spoke up. "(Buried) in a Muslim way, but we respect him as a public figure, so we also use a coffin," said Santa, when contacted by phone on Monday (27/1).

During the wake at the funeral home, the deceased has been prayed for. The burial process is planned to take place today, Monday (26/1) after Dhuhr prayer.

"(Ustaz) is here from RT (neighborhood association) who prepared everything, last night he was also prayed for by Mr. Haji. After Dhuhr prayer, while waiting for Doctor Eva to come, we will go directly to the grave," he explained.

"(The deceased) has been washed and prayed for. The whole family is present," Santa concluded.

Johny Indo is a figure who once became a national sensation. Before becoming an artist, he was a notorious criminal in the 1970s. His crimes included robbing gold shops in Jakarta.

Interestingly, the proceeds from Johny's robberies were distributed to those in need. From there, Johny earned the nickname 'Robin Hood.'

However, despite his actions, Johny was still considered to have violated the law and was eventually imprisoned in Nusakambangan. What caused a sensation was that the Garut-born man managed to escape from prison before surrendering again.

After his release from prison, Johny was recruited to become an actor. His story was even made into a film titled JOHNY INDO, THE TRUE STORY OF A PRISONER.
