Lucky Hakim Reveals Funny Moment when Panji Gumilang Sings Salam Yahudi at Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School: Thought it was Dutch

In his life, Lucky had never experienced such an event when visiting a pesantren, or a place that teaches religious knowledge. Moreover, Havenu Shalom Aleichem, which was sung by Panji Gumilang, was the first time Lucky heard the language.

"I used to study Islamic teachings when I was young, read Iqro, but this was the first time I encountered something new. When someone asked, 'Don't you know that's the Jewish language?' I never learned the Jewish language, seriously. If you look for evidence that I learned the Jewish language, I didn't know it was the Jewish language, I thought it was Dutch," he said at the National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, South Jakarta, Friday (14/7/2023).

1. Reveal the Reason for the Invitation

Lucky tells the story of how he was able to enter Pondok Pesantren Al Zaytun. Before becoming the Deputy Regent of Indramayu, he expressed his desire to see the pesantren directly.

"Why was I invited? Because before, I sent a letter through Lucky Hakim Center, an institution that I own, to send a letter of friendship because I wanted to see what was inside Al Zaytun," he said.

2. Curiosity Arises

What intrigued Lucky the most was the Rahmatan Lil Alamin mosque located inside the pesantren. The mosque has a large and magnificent building that made him want to see it up close.

"During the campaign period about a year before, I saw a very large mosque and all the stories outside of it, but I couldn't enter because I didn't know it yet, that was the first reason," said Lucky Hakim.

"Secondly, I hadn't taken office as Deputy Head of the Region, and thirdly, I was still new to the village in the Gantar District," Lucky added.

3. Visited the Pesantren

After serving as Deputy Regent of Indramayu, Lucky sent a letter and immediately received a response from Panji Gumilang to come on July 29, 2023, to visit his boarding school.

"When I arrived there and was met, I was warmly welcomed by Mr. Panji Gumilang and we went around to see. 'What do you want to see about Al Zaytun?' 'I want to see everything that is so spectacular.' I said it was spectacular because everything is grand, this is the largest boarding school in Indonesia. The land is very large," he said.

4. Impressed with its Facilities

At that time, Lucky was certainly amazed when he was taken around and saw the atmosphere of the boarding school up close. Lucky said that the boarding school has complete facilities for education, livestock, and modern agriculture.

"And I also saw that the mosque is very large, its capacity can accommodate tens of thousands, even larger than Istiqlal Mosque, and there are ships owned by Al Zaytun, maybe around several gross tons," said Lucky.

5. Joining in Singing

After that first visit, Panji Gumilang invited Lucky to come to the boarding school again the next day. That was the moment when the video of Lucky singing Havenu Shalom Aleichem, which became controversial, went viral on social media.

"Before going home, I was invited, 'come tomorrow, Sheikh's birthday', 'oh, birthday, where is the event?', 'here', so I thought because Mr. Panji is old, it will be celebrated with his children, grandchildren, and staff in a small way, so the next day I came again," he concluded.
