Surya Sahetapy recently received an award from MURI for his outstanding achievement in Deaf Education.
Since Surya resides in the United States, Dewi Yull, the mother of the award recipient, attended the handover ceremony.
Surya was recognized by MURI as the first deaf person from Indonesia to earn a master's degree in Deaf Education from a foreign country.
FYI, Surya was selected as a Distinguished Graduate Student in the Master of Science Degree category and the NTID Graduate College Delegate for the academic year 2022-2023.
In addition, Surya also stated that he received the International Student Outstanding Service Award on the same occasion.
On that occasion, Dewi Yull expressed her gratitude to MURI for their appreciation of the deaf community, especially Surya.
Regarding the award received by her son, Dewi Yull stated that limitations do not hinder someone from achieving their dreams.
Dewi Yull also highlighted the importance of noting the significant shortage of teachers for the deaf and hard of hearing worldwide.
The award is dedicated by Surya to all teachers who are firmly committed to the growth and success of deaf and hard of hearing students.
