Marc Marquez Experiences Double Vision Disturbance After Severe Accident in MotoGP Mandalika

Kapanlagi.com - Marc Marquez suffered a serious accident during the second round of MotoGP 2022 at the Mandalika Circuit last weekend. Complaining of pain in his eyes during his journey to Spain, the Repsol Honda rider was immediately rushed to the Clinic de Barcelona Hospital and treated by professional eye doctor Sánchez Dalmau.

After examination, the Spanish rider was diagnosed with double vision or diplopia. In fact, Marc Marquez had suffered from this condition twice before. The first time was when he was involved in an accident in Sepang, Malaysia in 2011, and the second time was at the end of October 2021 when he fell during a training session in Spain.

During MotoGP Mandalika, Marc Marquez was known to have fallen during the qualifying session on Saturday (19/3) local time. In the warm-up session on race day the following day, Marquez suffered a more serious accident.

The accident prevented the 29-year-old rider from participating in the MotoGP Mandalika race which took place on Sunday (20/3) afternoon. In the end, the race at the Mandalika Circuit was won by Portuguese rider Miguel Oliviera.

"It seems like I'm experiencing a deja vu... On the way back to Spain, I started to feel uncomfortable with my vision, and we decided to visit Dr. Sanchez Dalmau, who confirmed that I was experiencing a new episode of diplopia," Marquez wrote in his Instagram post.

"Luckily, this injury is not as severe as the one I suffered at the end of last year. However, it's time to rest and wait for how this injury will evolve. As usual, thank you very much to everyone for your support!!" concluded the 29-year-old racer.

2. Marc Marquez's Fate in the Next Race

After experiencing a serious accident and being diagnosed with diplopia, Marquez's fate to compete in the next race is now in question. It's not impossible for Marquez to miss the race again considering the injury may require time to heal.

The next MotoGP 2022 series will take place in Argentina, precisely at Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo on Monday, March 4, 2022. Nevertheless, there is still a possibility for Marquez to be able to race after he is fully declared healed by the doctor.

3. Diplopia

Quoting from the Cleveland Clinic page via Antaranews, Diplopia is a medical term for double vision. So, sufferers can see two images of one object. One of the causes of diplopia can originate from the brain and nerves, as the nerves that control the eyes are directly connected to the brain.
