Mayang Lucyana Banting Stir from Pop-Rock to Koplo, Releases Single 'Boncengan Baru'

Singer Mayang Lucyana Fitri has surprisingly decided to change her musical direction. The younger sister of the late Vanessa Angel, who has been associated with the pop-rock genre, has officially switched to the koplo music style with her latest single titled Boncengan Baru.

The process of creating this song took a considerable amount of time to ensure the best results. Mayang revealed that she has been preparing for this project for several months, including the production of the music video, which is now available for her fans to enjoy.

"Oh okay. The production took about two months, Dad. Two months. And for the music video, we made it about a month ago, and thank God, today the single Boncengan Baru is officially released. So, the production took two months, just like that," said Mayang Lucyana Fitri when met in the Pejaten area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (17/06/2026).

Mayang's decision to switch genres actually started from her own desire to try new challenges. Zankie, as the songwriter, saw great potential in Mayang, whom he has been monitoring in her development in the entertainment industry.

"Oh yes, I have a friend who introduced me to Mayang from the beginning. I see that Mayang is multitalented. I tried, she said she wanted to sing a koplo song. So, I tried to make the song 'Di Rumah Pun Masih Berada'. Coincidentally, I have been keeping an eye on her for a long time," said Zankie.

However, this shift in music genre triggered various reactions from netizens on social media. Many fans were shocked because they were used to seeing Mayang's image as a rock singer with her guitar. As a result, various criticisms as well as support emerged.

"In response to my friends in the netizen community, some were actually surprised, you know, because they usually see me in pop rock," said Mayang. "Because there are some who criticize but in a nice way. They said something like, 'Sorry Mayang, you don't seem to fit in koplo, because I'm used to seeing you in pop rock,'" she added.

Despite facing pros and cons, Mayang emphasized that she will not stop at just one koplo song. She feels very comfortable with this genre and plans to continue producing new works in the same musical path.

"Oh yes, of course my koplo single won't stop here. There will definitely be more of my next koplo singles, and God willing, it will become Mayang's koplo album," she explained.

Mayang hopes that the song Boncengan Baru can be an enjoyable entertainment for the wider community. She wants her latest work to accompany listeners while bringing spirit and joy through the koplo rhythm that she presents.
