Melly Goeslaw Creates a Sundanese Song, Dedicated to Her Hometown

Kapanlagi.com - As a singer and songwriter of hits, Melly Goeslaw feels incomplete without contributing to her hometown, Bandung, West Java, through a song.

Therefore, the wife of Anto Hoed created Sundanese lyrics for the first time.

Assisted by her eldest child, Ale, in music composition, they created a song titled 'Kaleum Aya Urang', a song specifically made by Melly as a dedication to her hometown.

"My way of expressing gratitude is usually through songs. There is a song for my mother, there is also a song for my father, there is a song 'Thank You Teacher' that I dedicate to my teachers. And for Bandung, the Sundanese land, I made this song," said Melly Goeslaw at her residence in Bintaro, South Jakarta, on Saturday (24/6/2023).

1. Starting From a Reunion

Melly said the idea to create a Sundanese song started from a small reunion moment with her school friends.

The result of reminiscing about her past in Bandung was finally poured into a song by Melly Goeslaw with strong traditional nuances.

"So the lyrics are about inviting Sundanese people to be confident in showcasing their creativity. Sundanese dishes are mentioned in the lyrics, I also included the names of places where I used to hang out with friends, like Dago Cicadas, Kosambi, and Cihampelas. The message is light," she said.

2. The Fastest Created Song

According to Melly, out of around 600 songs she has created, the song 'Kaleum Aya Urang' is the easiest and fastest one she has made. However, it holds a special value for her.

"This is the easiest song I have ever created, but it contains a message that truly comes from the depths of my heart, a form of my devotion to the Sundanese land," said Melly.

3. Proud to Release a Sundanese Song

Melly admits that she is proud to finally be able to create and release a Sundanese song for the first time after 28 years in the music industry.

She admits that she has no higher expectations for the song 'Kaleum Aya Urang'. She only hopes that her song can be accepted and entertain music enthusiasts.

"This is the first Sundanese song that I have made. There are no future fantasies, what matters is that I have made a work dedicated to the land of Sunda, the future is unpredictable. Hopefully, it can entertain and please everyone, if this becomes popular and people like it and there is demand for more, why not make more songs in Sundanese," she said.
