Oki Setiana Dewi Visits Palestinian Refugees in Egypt: My Heart and Eyes are Wet

Now temporarily residing in Cairo, Egypt, Oki Setiana Dewi is not wasting her time to show social concern for the Palestinian people. Oki Setiana Dewi's presence at the Palestinian refugee camp became a deeply emotional moment for herself.

This mother of four is not just visiting, but also greeting, listening, and spending time with the refugee children living in limitations. This is a portrait of Oki Setiana Dewi's activities during her visit to the Palestinian refugee camp.

Taking a photo with the refugee children, Oki smiles at the camera.  In her post, Oki Setiana Dewi wrote an emotional expression, "You'll be in my heart, Palestine."

She recounts the condition of the Gaza refugees who are now separated from their fathers. Many of the fathers are still in Gaza, and most have become martyrs, while the mothers and children must survive in a foreign land.

"A little story, many Gaza refugees are currently temporarily residing in Egypt. Most of the fathers are still in Gaza (most have become martyrs) while the children and mothers are in Egypt," she stated in her post.

While in Egypt, these refugee children cannot access formal education due to the lack of official documents. Instead, they participate in learning activities at alternative schools.

Alternative schools are run voluntarily by volunteers. The learning places are very simple, far from being adequate, yet the children are still full of spirit and hope.

The atmosphere when Oki teaches feels warm and calming. The children sit close together in a simple room, with sparkling eyes despite living in trauma and uncertainty.

Oki appears to be wearing simple clothing and a volunteer vest, blending in without distance, as if becoming part of them. "My heart and eyes are wet not just from seeing the refugees from Gaza, but because of witnessing so many good people who continue to care for them," he concluded.
