In 2025, Dewi officially relinquished her status as an Indonesian citizen (WNI) and returned to being a Japanese citizen.
This decision was made to realize her ambition of forming a political party named Heiwa 12. This party has a unique focus, which is to advocate for the welfare of dogs and cats!
Not to be taken lightly, Dewi is also said to be planning to run for a seat in the House of Councillors in the upcoming elections.
For those who don’t know, Dewi Soekarno was actually born with the name Naoko Nemoto. Her love story with Bung Karno began on June 16, 1959, when they met at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. At that time, Naoko, who was only 19 years old, worked as an entertainer at an official state dinner.
Three months after that meeting, Bung Karno invited Naoko to Jakarta. They eventually married on March 3, 1962. Naoko then embraced Islam and changed her name to Ratna Sari Dewi.
From this marriage, they were blessed with a daughter named Kartika Sari Dewi who was born in Tokyo on March 11, 1967. Unfortunately, their relationship had to end in divorce in 1970.
Now, at her not-so-young age, Dewi Soekarno is showing a new spirit. From being the president's wife to a political candidate who wants to fight for her beloved little animals!
