Postponement of Lawsuit Against Virgoun, Label Transfers Royalty Rights to Inara Rusli?

The civil lawsuit by Inara Rusli against Virgoun, regarding the transfer of song royalties, is being held at the Central Jakarta District Court. Unfortunately, the trial has been postponed again because Virgoun, as the defendant, has not been able to attend the hearing or present legal representation.

"Power of attorney from the defendant, Mrs. Inara, and the other defendants. And it turns out that today the defendant and their legal representation cannot attend, so they will be summoned again next week," said Arjana Bagaskara, Inara Rusli's legal representative, on Wednesday (17/1/2024).

The label itself denies that they have transferred the royalties received by Virgoun. Ari Juliano Gema, legal representative of Drm & Drp, emphasizes that in the agreement between Virgoun and BRM and DRP, there is no mention of any transfer.

"That's why, if it has been developed in public, that Virgoun diverted the rights as if eliminating these rights does not exist at all. In fact, there is no written transfer in the agreement," said Ari.

However, Inara's party insists on proving in court that Virgoun did transfer, after the decision of the Religious Court is issued.

"Let's see what the proof agenda looks like. What is clear is that we are still firm that there is a unilateral transfer without permission from Inara as the royalty holder," said Arjana.

"From our side, even though the other party states that, but from our side as the plaintiff, we must prove it. Regarding our lawsuit being considered wrong or whatever it is, in our opinion, we are right and will prove it in court," added Arjana.

Regarding the evidence that Inara possesses, Arjana is still reluctant to reveal it. According to Arjana, it is still too premature to discuss such matter.

"It is still too premature to talk about the evidence, but we will see it during the proofing agenda. Currently, it is still too early," said Arjana Bagaskara.

Inara herself has not yet arrived because there is no obligation to attend the trial. However, when it comes to the mediation agenda, Inara as the plaintiff is guaranteed to be present.

"Because according to the trial procedure, attendance is not mandatory. Mrs. Inara will attend the mediation agenda, as the principal is required to be present," explained Arjana.

The trial will resume next week, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. The trial has scheduled the summons of Virgoun as the defendant 1.
