Ray Sahetapy Passed Away on the Second Day of Eid, Family Had No Prior Intuition - Funeral Was Temporarily Delayed

The passing of senior actor Ray Sahetapy on Wednesday (4/2/2025) shocked many, including his closest family. The late actor's child, Raya Sahetapy, revealed that they had no intuition whatsoever before their father took his last breath.

"There was no such thing as intuition, it was denial," said Raya when met at the Sentosa funeral home (Gatot Subroto) Block C, Thursday (4/3/2025). Here are the details.

Ray Sahetapy passed away on the second day of Eid, just as his family planned to visit him on the third day. This moment was a heavy blow for the family, who had always maintained a good relationship with the deceased.

"This year, on the third day of Eid, I, Kak Utop, and Kak Merdi were actually going to see Dad. But God had other plans. He passed away on the second day," said Raya.

Although he had been separated from Dewi Yull, Ray Sahetapy continued to maintain communication with his children and grandchildren. Through video calls, they often shared stories and joked even though they could not always meet in person.

"Actually, communication with Kak Merdi and the grandchildren is always through video calls for sure, we definitely meet our dad, yes for sure," he said.

Raya also recounted how her brother, Surya, who is in the United States, rushed home after hearing the sad news.

"It's definitely sad when losing a parent, where yesterday Kak Surya and I cried together on a video call. So when I heard the news, Kak Surya immediately bought a ticket to Jakarta at 5:00 AM," he revealed.

Surya's journey back to Indonesia was not easy, considering the current political situation in the United States is quite difficult for immigrants. However, he still tried to pay his last respects to his father.

"It's actually quite risky because the president in America is making it hard for immigrants, but Kak Surya took that risk to go home to see his father for the last time," explained Raya.

Although there was a delay in the funeral waiting for Surya's arrival, the family did not regret the decision. They believe that everything has happened according to the destiny that has been determined.

"I don't have any regrets, and I hope my father returns as soon as possible. This is the time, the issue is that Kak Surya is there, so there’s nothing to regret, and this is indeed the way it is meant to be," he said.
