This year is a special moment for Ruben Onsu who is preparing to perform the pilgrimage for the first time. However, who would have thought that the journey to the Holy Land actually began from an unexpected event.
The father of three revealed that initially he did not immediately accept the offer to go on pilgrimage. Ruben even refused when the offer came during the Eid al-Fitr celebration. Check out the full story below!

"At that time (during Idul Fitri), someone offered me to go for Hajj, and I said 'no, maybe later', I said that," said Ruben Onsu when met in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, Tuesday (20/5/2025).
Ruben's decision eventually changed after someone who had known his spiritual journey for a long time shared surprising news. This person became the link that made Ruben confident to go to the Holy Land.
"He also knew my journey from the beginning when I migrated, yes he was the one who said 'I'll register your Umrah, but you didn't get in, I registered for Hajj and you got in', he said that," explained Ruben Onsu.
Although initially surprised, Ruben then began to accept that this was a call that could not be ignored. He felt grateful for the opportunity to fulfill the fifth pillar of Islam.
"So, thank God. I was initially still in shock, still couldn't believe it, still wanted to learn a lot first, but then it was explained to me, 'this is an opportunity', so that's it," said Ruben Onsu.
In carrying out his pilgrimage, Ruben has committed to focus solely on worship activities. He has chosen not to participate in additional activities such as shopping tours that are usually included in the pilgrimage journey. "I want to focus on worship hotel worship hotel, scratch off the itinerary to shopping places," said Ruben Onsu.
In order for all his worship activities to be carried out well, Ruben feels very helped by the guidance from the accompanying ustaz. According to him, this is an important facility that helps him be more focused in worship.
"Alhamdulillah thank you for the good things because I was given a special accompanying ustaz, so that he can guide everything so that no prayers are missed," he concluded.
